 Volunteer Services
The De Queen Medical Center Auxiliary has been a non-profit volunteer organization since 1965. Organized for charitable and educational purposes, as well as bringing hope and comfort to all who are in distress of mind or body at the hospital and nursing homes, the members of the auxiliary serve with generosity, discretion and gentleness, and always without prejudice or pride.
In-hospital services provided by the volunteers include keeping a full service Gift Shop. Other areas of service include: the Refreshment Cart, keeping magazine racks filled, delivering mail and flowers, and providing pediatric patients with coloring books, crayons or infant rattles. Continuing Education Grants are given two times a year to hospital employees in amounts up to $400 each. Since 1992, the auxiliary has awarded $24,346.00 in grants. Financial support is given to Advanced Cardiac Life Support classes held at the hospital.
Auxiliary members are involved in decorating the lobby for Christmas as well as honoring all hospital employees during National Hospital Week.
Outreach programs include weekly visits to the area nursing homes and retirement lodge. "Marion's Walk" which honors a deceased aux. member provides a $50.00 donation to Arkansas Children's Hospital which is matched by the Wal-Mart Foundation. In January 2005, a new scholarship was established in the amount of $300.00 per semester for a nursing student at CCCUA.
The money derived from sales in the Gift Shop and commission on the vending machines provide the funds for the auxiliary's projects.
The hospital appreciates each and every one of our volunteers!
